Since November, Textbook Division started textbook request submission for 2017-2018 S2. Till Nov. 6th, Textbook Division finished request submission and proceed to procumbent session with receiving 270 categories of textbooks. It is estimated that Textbook Division will offer price bidding feedback within 10 working days to department when receiving reply from book vendors. Textbook Division replied and asked for orders confirmation for each module leaders and all the textbook orders were placed before the end the November.
On November 23th to 24th, Textbook Division collaborated with MITS on Textbook Management System updating work and started to select new proper vendor for future system maintenance. It was reported that there four vendors on the waiting list to do the presentation on their understandings of current Textbook Management System, in addition, they expressed their expectation on how to improve current system to be more user-friendly. The final result will be released after discussion between MITS and TPD very soon.
According to working time line attached with XJTLU Textbook Service Policy, TPD shall compose a document for staff and students on how to use textbook effectively especially when it comes to copyright. Owing to receiving many inquiries on textbook issues when special book status occurs, like out of print, out of stock and etc., TPD prepare the document for staff and students on how to legally use e-materials of photocopying when hard copy is not available.
Since all students number and module information is stabilized, Textbook Division started to calculate students’ textbook fee for 2017-2018 S1 in Dec. After analyzing the students’ module information provided by Registry and the students’ collection records in Textbook Management System, the students’ detailed textbook fee were calculated. Moreover, for the graduate PG and exchange students, Textbook Division completed their textbook fee settlement with Finance Office in late Dec.
To ensure textbooks delivery and distribution smoothly, Textbook Division started the preparations in Textbook Service Center. The preparation work is including venue decoration, device application and books arrangement. Till the end of Dec, the venue preparation has been finished and began to receive the textbooks for next semester.
With the improvement of Textbook Service Policy, Textbook Division decided to upgrade current Textbook Management System to provide better textbook service in next semester. After several rounds of selection and discussion, Textbook Division and MITS selected a new experienced vendor to maintain the current system and began the functional upgrading for textbook distribution.
