Library holds the Living Library to share experiences

The living library activity was held by the library to give the students an opportunity to learn about different people’s personal experiences, values and culture. The living library allows students to gain knowledge actively, through discussion rather than reading a book. Seven students and teachers from XJTLU with different life experiences shared their life experiences’ stories to the audience. The activity was held on the 21th November 2017 and 22th November 2017 in R153 of the library. Approximately 100 students attended the event. This gave students the opportunity to meet different speakers that they found interesting.



The latest technology on the stage: The project exhibition of the Science Innovation Association was held in the library

The project exhibition of the Science Innovation Association was held from November 13th to 17th on the first floor of the library. The exhibition displayed Oculus VR 、Racing car Model、and robot etc. All the exhibits were designed and produced by staffs and students in Science Innovation Association. This domestic and international latest technology integration brought us various experiences.

The library is not the place only for studying and researching, it is a platform for teachers、students and corporation in XJTLU to show their creativity. We are always welcome students and staffs coming to the library to study, research and exhibitions. Members of iStaff, launched three wonderful lectures to library patrons

The iStaff is a committed team of young leaders who are playing a critical role in the delivery of goods, services, and programs throughout the entire school community. The iStaff is a team of students including, UGs, PGs, PhDs and Non-locals who seek out and accept the opportunity to work as part of a leadership crew facilitated by the library.

Last week, the iStaff team organized three different lectures by three members, they are: Xuxiong Xiao, a Year 4 student majoring in Urban Planning and Design, gave a lecture on how to make graphic design by PowerPoint at 7pm on 14th Nov; Joon Cho, a Year 3 Korean student majoring in International Business with Language, gave a lecture on how to make presentation by PowerPoint at 7pm on 15th Nov; Min Wang, the associate librarian of User Service Division from the library, gave a lecture on Excel basic operation and application at 2pm on 18th Nov;

These lectures are all held in computer room 455 and attracted totally more than 100 attendants from all years of UG and PGs. Audience feedback was very positive. The iStaff program successfully takes the lead of the students in the areas they feel the most confident in and challenges them in their weaker areas. Students work in teams, tap into each other’s strengths, and strive to get the projects done.



Coursework Exhibition had been held in the library

The mooncake box exhibition was held from November 6th to 8th on the first floor of the library by the Department of Industrial Design. The mooncake box can be used as a table lantern lamp which can provide nice lighting decoration on the dining table. Students are expected to choose wood, acrylic and paper to fabricate their prototypes using laser cutters available in the workshop. Many students participated in the exhibitions, appreciating the exquisite mooncake boxes.

The library will hold all kind of exhibitions on the 1st floor to improve the art atmosphere of the campus culture, and also welcome to support and provide assistance to academic departments and students who would like to have an exhibition here.



The dedication ceremony of “Illustrations of the records of the grand historians” held at XJTLU museum

The dedication ceremony held by Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University and donors from Shanxi Venus and Moon Cultural Communication Company took place at the XJTLU museum on 21st, December.

The ceremony consists of a reading seminar and a donation ceremony. Attendees including the executive principal, historical scholars and students shared their experience on reading the Records of the Grand Historians. Later, the representative of the donors donated the “Illustrations of the Records of the Grand Historians” to the XJTLU Library. This ceremony set up a role model of carrying forward the traditional culture of historical research and spreading the trend of reading history, benefiting teachers and students.

The Library has held Christmas calendar and coloring activities

The library has held Christmas calendar and coloring activities in December to reduce pressure before the final examination. Christmas calendar is a special calendar to count the days in the anticipations of Christmas which was started from the 1st December. Students can pick a piece of paper from the Christmas calendar box for a surprise gift or wishes prepared by library, within 1st December-24th December.

Christmas Coloring is an activity to help students to express their creative side and to release stress after a long week of deadlines and before final exam. 43 students have taken part in the coloring activity, and submitted their fascinating coloring pictures.



Warm water is available in the washrooms in the library

This winter, every washroom basins in the library are able to provide warm water. This new installation have received positive feedback from students as they don't have to wash their hands with cold water, especially in winter.

The library is the most common place for students to do self-study, and it is visited by more than four thousand students per day. This warm water project aims at providing a better study experience for the students especially in improving our facilities. It reflects the idea of user-centered service and humanity service.
