Borrow, Return, Renew & Reserve: 7. Reserving items

Shows you how to locate & obtain a book in XJTLU library.

Reserving items on hold

If all copies of the item you want to borrow are on loan, then you can use the “Reservation” function in the Library Catalogue System to reserve the item. The reservation quota for each user is 8. The current user of the item will receive an email stating that the item has been reserved by another user. However, the current user of the item is not required to bring the item back to the library until the due date. A notification will be sent to the person who made the reservation when the item being requested has been returned. Please go to the Library Circulation Desk at the selected pickup location to check it out within 7 days, otherwise the reservation will be automatically cancelled. Please note that failure to pick up your reserved items for 3 times would result in temporary suspension of reservation service privilege for 30 days.

Tip #1 How long should I wait?

  • For items that are out on loan, when you get the item will depend on your position in the hold queue and how soon the borrowers in front of you returns the item.
  • Please make sure that your reservation record is on retention for 180 days. If the book still isn't available for you after 180 days, a new reservation must be made again.

Tip #2 Reservation cannot be processed if

• You have overdue items or fines in your account.

• The item is NOT on loan.

• The item has already been checked out by you.

• The item is a non-circulating item such as past exam papers and journals.

• The item is not allowed to be reserved such as course reserves.

• You have reached your reservation quota limit (8 items).

• The item itself has reached reservation limit (8 times).
