In order to help teachers and students to better adapt the school life and improve the personal ability, the library held a series of training courses from November to December, with theoretical and practical learning respectively, the names are “How to be an effective leaner (6 parts)" and "let's excel together (4 parts)".
Through the successful establishment of these two course series, the students not only enriched the theoretical knowledge about human learning behavior, but also improved the application skills of Excel, achieved "internal and external training".
On 19th November at BS392, the second session of GO READING in this semester was held successfully. Co-organized by the Library, Reader Association and History Club, the event was to read and discuss Ray Huang's representative work 1587, A YEAR OF NO SIGNIFICANCE. Dr. Bo Wang from Chinese Cultural Teaching Center was the guest speaker, sharing her own opinion with the audience.
The third session started at 7 on 10th December at CB153. The book for reading was Blindness by Noble Prize winner Jose Saramago. Jingyi Zhong, as the main speaker, talked about her ideas about the book.
Over 120 people signed up and participated in the events. Through the interpretation and analysis of the books, they found the beauty of literature and experienced the joy of reading.
The 30th Living Library was successfully held on 23 November and the theme was Staying True to Yourself. XJTLU Library invited five "living books", namely Xiao CAO, Yuan SUN, Tingting YU, Peiyao LU and Juncheng LIU, to share their personal stories with XJTLUsers. Their topics covered various areas such as global travelling, sports, broadcasting and hosting, volunteering and internship, etc.
Over one hundred students took part in the event. In Living Library, they listened to the true stories and life experiences. Inspired by the passion, sincerity and courage in the stories, they were able to take the opportunity to challenge their own stereotypes and prejudices in a protected environment, finding out the diversity in life and work and learning to stay true to themselves.
On 5 November, in Room 153 of the Library, the first session of GO READING in this semester was held by XJTLU Library and Reader Association. The book we read was The Moon and Sixpence by Maugham.
Xiaoxuan Sun, as the host of this meeting, first briefly introduced the novel and its author, and shared her understanding of the book. Group discussions were then carried out through the analysis of some famous paragraphs in the book, on the topics of "interpersonal relationship and social relationship", "how to choose between the moon and sixpence" and "love view and life pursuit", etc.
This event, with a high degree of participation and a lively atmosphere, was of literary appreciation, in-depth thinking and practical importance for all participants.
In October, in order to welcome the new students and implement the "user-oriented and service-oriented" concept, the Library held a series of activities and training courses for the new students who enrolled in 2021.
The Library set up a big information board of “Explore Your Library” on the 1st floor of the library, which attracted a large number of new students to stop. All the activities were shown on the board, including Library Exploration, Library Guide Collection, Library Resources and Services Induction, and Library Etiquette Tips Guide.
On October 16th and 17th, the Buddy Group gave a library tour to the freshmen. Considering the core needs of the students, the Buddies introduced to the freshmen the regulations of using services and spaces with great patience, as well as how to use the Library’s self-service facilities. Besides the on-site library tours, the Library also launched 6 training courses for freshmen. These courses showed new students how to use library OPAC system, how to search for, locate and borrow books and how to make use of e-resources, etc., which better supported their further learning and research at XJTLU.
The Freshmen events aimed to encourage freshmen to get familiar with XJTLU Library and use library resources more efficiently in their future learning, making the Library the second classroom for XJTLUers.
To keep our library clean and inviting, a regular deep cleaning around the library was carried out during this summer holidays. Cleaners swept floors, wiped down tables and chairs at all levels of the building thoroughly. A few damaged chairs and chairs with tough stains were picked out along the way. Replacement of these chairs have already be arranged.
XJTLU Library held a series of activities from 26 to 30 July to celebrate graduation of the 2021 cohort.
The activities were as follows:
Let Me Talk to You: A comment board was placed in the library entrance hall to let the graduates write down lovely tips for freshmen; Youth Memory Station: XJTLU Library prepared five "Youth Memory Stations" for the graduates to take pictures as a remembrance; A Love Letter to the Library: The graduates shared their touching memories of the Library with sincerity.
Teng, graduating this year, wrote in his letter to the Library, “I would love to thank you for your sincere help throughout my study here. From the bottom of my heart, I wish XJTLU a bright future in cultivating and servicing more and more students!”
Trends in Higher Education is an internal publication sponsored by XJTLU Library, which covers the latest scientific researches and tracks the latest progress in higher education, and combines the educational work practice of XJTLU.
The latest issue captures the new policy and strategy of the higher education after the Covid-19, especially the tendency of integration of Industry and education in China, which is set as hot focus.
The publication aims to provide effective reference and guidance to higher education practitioners and researchers of XJTLU. Suggestions and advice from the readers are much welcomed!

Exam Stress Busters are short, drop-in events to help ease stress associated with exams and enhance wellbeing. All stress buster activities are free and open to all students. This semester we offered two study break activities at the Library including “Lucky Tickets”, with which students could get a snack and take a break, and “Relaxation Room” located on the first floor of the library, where students were able to play various games. Other fun methods of stress management were also made available. We recommended interesting books to help students relax and also offered useful tips on how to cope with exam stress. Students were delighted with these initiatives during the exam weeks.
