To add references by database, generally there are three steps:

  1. Searching the database
  2. Identifying and marking the records you want
  3. Tips for writing a good abstract
  4. Selecting the database’s direct export option

Following are two examples of commonly used database export literature:

Web of Science

  1. Enter keywords
  2. Select references
  3. Export > EndNote Desktop > Export
  4. Doble click .ciw file to open it

Scopus

  1. Enter keywords
  2. Select references
  3. Export > EndNote RIS format > Export
  4. Doble click .ciw file to open it

This method can also be used to export all publications of a specific author or export the reference list of a single article.

You can use EndNote's online search function to find references.

  1. Select Online Search from the panel located at the left of the EndNote window
  2. Click on the database you want in the list, or select more
  3. Enter your keywords, then click Search
  4. Select the records you would like to save, then click the plus sign in the top right corner to add them to your library

If the reference you want to cite is not a book or article but rather a patent, thesis, or something similar, you'll need to create it manually.

  1. Click on References > New Reference... Or Click on All references > plus sign in the middle
  2. Change the reference type, fill in the information, and save it.
