XJTLU Library Academic Book & Textbook Fair 2020 Came to A Successful End

XJTLU Library Academic Book & Textbook Fair 2020 was held at the South Study Hall, the 3rd Floor of the Library, which lasted for three days, form Oct.27 to Oct.29. There exhibited all kinds of original foreign-language academic books and had attracted lots of faculties and students to the fair to read and select books. Holding this activity aims to build exchange platform for faculties and students with the press, book vendors and librarians, to provide sufficient academic support and more insight into the various disciplines for teaching resources and academic services. The University Library strives to promote the balance of collection resources between various disciplines, ensuring all disciplines are adequately covered.

It is a large-scale comprehensive book fair integrating five book vendors, namely China National Publications Imp & Exp (Group) Corporation, China Sci-Tech Information Imp & Exp Corporation, China National Publications Import & Export Corporation Xi’an Branch, China National Publications Import & Export Corporation Shanghai Branch and Beijing Zhongke Imp & Exp Company. Meanwhile, famous international presses were invited for academic exchanges, which includes Pearson, Oxford University Press, John Wiley & Sons, Taylor & Francis Group, Macmillan Publishers Limited, SAGE Publications, CENGAGE Learning and McGraw-Hill Education. In light of the University international teaching and research characteristics, the books on the fair are all original academic books in foreign languages, which closely follow the subjects in our school, such as Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Accounting, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning and Design, Biology, Computer Science and Technology, Architecture, Economics, Media Communication, Film and TV Arts, Language etc.

With the librarian's sufficient promotion and preparation as well as the supports of university leaders and various departments, the book fair went smoothly and the faculties and students responded well. There were over one hundred faculties and students involved in book recommendation, and more than one thousand books were recommended on the fair. Librarians are currently busy handling on book fair recommendations, all of which are expected to be on shelf in late November. The faculties and students who participated in the book recommendation will receive the one-on-one book recommendation feedback, and the book lending information will also be sent to the corresponding personal email.

At the site of event, coffee and tea were provided for free. XJTLU Library Academic Book & Textbook Fair 2020 themed "Be Smart, Be Sure" came to a successful end in pleasant atmosphere.


XJTLU Library Successfully held Sino-Foreign University Textbook Management Seminar

On November the 27th, the XJTLU Library Successfully held Sino-Foreign University Textbook Management Seminar.

The seminar focused on “Blended teaching and textbook practice in a post COVID-19 world, themed as Challenges, Collaboration and Connection”, major international publishing and education groups, state-owned import and export companies, as well as library and textbook management departments of Sino-Foreign universities joined the discussion. The seminar was hosted by Chao TENG, Deputy University Librarian of XJTLU.

Dr. Xin BI, Director of the Centre for knowledge and information, stated in his welcome speech that “XJTLU has experienced online education since February 2020 as a result of students not being able to return to campus after the COVID-19 outbreak. Proactive planning started in May to introduce online and offline hybrid teaching for the new semester in September. During the outbreak, XJTLU saw the crisis as an opportunity to accelerate and upgrade hybrid teaching technology.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on the internationalization of the university, teaching staff, enrollment, teaching, technology and textbooks. This seminar will allow us to share experiences, communicate information, predict trends and prepare for the future 2-3 years, particularly focusing on the industry environment and the specific implementation of textbooks." Dr. Xin BI said.

"This seminar was the first symposium focusing on the management and service of textbook in respect to Sino-Foreign universities. Nearly 100 professionals from 12 Sino-Foreign Universities, textbook management departments, 9 major publishers who specialize in textbook provision, and several state-owned import and export companies attended the seminar.

"Chunmei Yan, director of Nottingham-Ningbo University Library; Haitao Chi, Vice Dean at Jilin University-Lambton College; Linpei Yang, Zhejiang University International Campus; Qianyu Jin, Teaching Department of Wenzhou-Kean University; Yunying Zhang, XJTLU Library; Li Na, XJTLU Centre for Educational Technology, shared management practices, experiences and stories of blended teaching, learning resources, especially textbook management and services, technology provision and management, teacher training and other management practices, experiences and stories as well as national policies and regulations. In addition, development trends, problems and challenges in this field and the projects that can promote inter university cooperation were also discussed.

"McGraw-Hill, Pearson, Cambridge University Press, Elsevier, Sage, Princeton University Press, Taylor & Francis, Cengage, and Macmillan attended the seminar. From the perspective of academic resource publishing and service, they shared experiences focused on learning science, learner behavior analysis, textbook publishing, and e-Textbook platforms.

"Duke Kunshan University, Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College, Ulster College at Shaanxi University of Science & Technology, Sino-Danish College, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Aulin College, Northeast Forestry University, Jinan campus of Shandong University of Science and Technology, and Anhui University and The State University of New York at Stony Brook attended the meeting and made exchange speeches during the discussion session.

A number of state-owned import and export institutions, including China National Publications Import and Export (Group) Corporation, China National Publications Import and Export Corporation, Xi’an branch, China National Publications Import and Export Corporation, Shanghai branch, Zhong Ke I/E Company of China Science Publishing Group, attended the meeting and shared information on relevant national policies, import and export processes and important connections. Universities, publishers and import and export companies have communicated with each other fully, actively and practically on current problems in the textbook management and service industry.

The seminar promoted the exchange and cooperation between universities, and through dialogue promoted mutual understanding and consensus among various textbook management chain. The delegates reached a consensus on how to share information more closely and promote textbook platform among universities, and entrusted the XJTLU library to act as the main body in promoting software development for the new online platform, to better serve the construction of the textbook service and the new forms of textbook service in the future.
