A training course about how to create screen recording with the software “camtasia” was given by the campus’s librarian Weiwei Jiang in the 17th April 2018. The software “camtasia” is a great tool to screencast video production, which has the features of recording screen actions, images, sound effects, mouse movements, and commentaries and so on. The training course was presented in the way of site practice. Which means the trainee could operate the software by following the trainer’s demonstrations. Participators of the training course could solve problems in real time during the teaching process. Thanks to Weiwei’s professionality and patient instruction. The trainees could master the operating skills of “camtasia” well after the training. That means much more convenient when facing tasks such as learning and publishing work in the future.
The library has added a new self-study place on the 5th floor north area. There are 20 private sets of table and chair available to use. The purpose is to meet the different objectives of library users, and to accommodate those users with an area where privacy is highly respected. They no longer have to feel uncomfortable dealing with too many people or less personal space due to table-sharing and limited moving spaces. The tables have been designed especially to meet students’ need to feel safer about their belongings and to be able to enjoy the environment where they study. Therefore, with the new self-study facility, it is expected that library users will have more choices of facilities to accomplish anything they aim inside the library. The users really appreciate and are grateful for the new self-study area.
The living library activity was held by the library to give the students an opportunity to learn about different people’s personal experiences, values and culture. The living library allows students to gain knowledge actively, through discussion rather than reading a book. The activity was successfully held on the 23th April 2018 in G23w of cental building. There were 10 extraordinary “Living Books” who participated in this activity to share their unique experience to the audience. The Living Library event wish to stimulate the readers’ imagination and ideas, encourage the students to read and explore a new way of reading.
The Library Student Committee Meeting was held at Room 153 on 16th May 2018. 10 Student Representatives and library staff members engaged in constructive dialogue and feedback on the improvements of library space and service this academic year. They work actively together to find solutions to any problems encountered.
Library Student Committee Meeting has a purely communicational and advisory function, providing an official forum for students to discuss current issues relating to the Library polices and services at XJTLU. It is responsible for keeping the students informed of major issues and for creating opportunities for the students to discuss priorities.
The iStaff is a committed team of young leaders who are playing a critical role in the delivery of goods, services, and programs throughout the entire school community. The iStaff is a team of students including, UGs, PGs, PhDs and Non-locals who seek out and accept the opportunity to work as part of a leadership crew facilitated by the library.
Last month, Shuoyang Zheng, a Year 2 student majoring in Industrial Design, and the lead member of iStaff team, gave two different lectures, they are: (1) Post-production of Digital photography: Photoshop & Lightroom, at 7pm on 9th May. (2) The basic skill of video editing: Premiere Pro, at 7pm 0n 16th May. The lectures both lasted about 2 hours and attracted totally more than 50 attendants from all years of UG and PGs. Audience feedback was very positive. The iStaff program successfully takes the lead of the students in the areas they feel the most confident in and challenges them in their weaker areas. Students work in teams, tap into each other’s strengths, and strive to get the projects done.
To accommodate the study needs of students during the coming exam week, Library extends its opening hours to 24:00 on the 1st and 3rd floor from Monday 28th May to Library is also rolling out the “Tricks to help with exam stress” and “Top tips for exam week” to assist students during their exam revision using library resources. Lucky Ticket and Lucky candy as an energy supplement will be offered on each floor of library. Rubik’s cube, puzzles, coloring, huarong road, checkers, and five in a Row will be prepared in the relaxation room to help students reduce pressure.
The exam week actives aim to assist students through finding a balance between studying, resting and a nice environment to meet examinations requirement. This exam services are provided in order to enhance on embodying the library customer-focused service concept and creates a civilized and harmonious campus atmosphere.
