GIS : Introduction
What is GIS?
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a cross-disciplinary tool for viewing and analyzing information with a spatial component. Working with superimposed maps and data in GIS brings a new perspective to fields including marketing, health and emergency services, agriculture, archaeology, environmental science, energy and more. Described by Esri, a GIS software company, in the resource page What is GIS?, "GIS reveals deeper insights into data, such as patterns, relationships, and situations—helping users make smarter decisions".
